How do California Coast Credit Union auto loans work?

The auto loan rates at California Coast Credit Union can be very low, even as low as 0.80% when you use a Cal Coast Auto Buying Service. Other services can be as low as 2.98% for an older car or 4.98% for a newer auto.

    Credit score

To qualify for the lowest loan rates you must have excellent credit, and may be turned away if your credit rating is very poor.

    How much can you borrow?

At California Coast Credit Union you can take a loan out for 105% financing, meaning you can take a little extra for yourself if needed.

What types of vehicles are eligible for financing?

The California Coast Credit Union’s best auto loans allow you to cover cars, (including classic, exotic, and specialty vehicles), motorcycles, and boats.

    How do I qualify?

It would seem that the California Coast Credit Union only covers the San Diego and Riverside areas, and therefore you must be a resident or relative of a resident to apply.

However this isn’t specifically stated anywhere on the website, and when trying to sign up as a trial, the website continually crashed without giving any indication why, or what the eligibility stipulations are.

    What documents do I need?

To apply, ensure you’ve got these documents. Preparing them beforehand will save you some time. You should be sure that you’ve got a government-issued ID, driver's license, state ID, or passport, a social security number, and your current physical and mailing address.

    What are the fees?

There’s a $10 late fee if you’re more than ten days late with your payment, which is fairly reasonable.

How long does the loan process take?

The site claims that the online process should only take five minutes, and then you’ll be on the way to receiving your loan. It may be a temporary error, but at the moment the website won’t allow you to apply for an auto loan.

How to apply for an auto loan?

California Coast can only be applied for online, but there’s a customer service number you can call if you’re struggling.

    What payment methods are supported?

At California Coast CU you can pay using your credit card or a bank transfer.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Supports the local community
    • Has some amazing rates if you’re able to get them
    • 105% financing

    Cons

    • The website is currently broken
    • It seems as though it only caters to a small area

Is California Coast Credit Union right for you?

California Coast Credit Union comes fairly well respected, but only appears to service a smallish catchment area. What’s worse, at the time of writing, the auto loan application isn’t working, so we don’t know for certain what it offers.

A lender that caters to a much larger area, works perfectly, and provides all the information you need, is Capital One. With attractive rates on auto loans, this is a competitive organization.
